Gail is a native of North Carolina, and her commitment to her state runs deep. She attended the University of North Carolina (Charlotte) and earned her Master’s from the University of Arkansas before returning home. She began her career working in higher education at the University of North Carolina (Wilmington) for two years and then spent the majority of her career working for Mecklenburg County. She retired as a Division Director for Land Use and Environmental Services Agency. Today, Gail works part-time as a Management Consultant, teaching a values-based leadership approach to senior leaders in public and private sectors.

Gail’s passion to serve in the General Assembly grew from grassroots advocacy work over the last five years, to tackle gerrymandering and protect voting rights. She sees extreme partisan gerrymandering as the root cause of many of North Carolina’s problems, such as inadequate education funding, refusal to expand Medicaid access, and environmental deregulation. Politicians are beholden to party leadership (who control their district lines) rather than to the voters of the state.

Gail believes in justice, equity, and inclusiveness as the driving factors of our policies. North Carolina’s legislature needs to focus on providing job opportunities and livable wages for working people to support their families; a quality public education for all children; and healthcare that is accessible and affordable for all people. We need affordable housing and the expansion of Medicaid. We need to take care of our veterans who have given so much for our country. And we need districts drawn so that we the people can hold our representatives accountable based on their ideas and performance, not their party affiliation.
